By LAW we must see an animal to be able to prescribe prescription medications. This includes many ear and eye drops as well as antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. This means that although your pet may have had the same or similar problems in the past we will still, by law, need to examine your pet to ensure the diagnosis is correct and there are no other problems with your pet.
There are some medications which need to be given long term or even life long. With these drugs we can repeat prescriptions for a maximum of 6 months before we need to see your pet again for a thorough check and sometimes blood tests. Some of these drugs may potentially have side effects if given long term and these checks are a good opportunity for us to ensure your pet is in good health and the medications are still benefiting your pet. This is also a legal requirement for repeat prescriptions.
